I plead with Nigerians and our law makers, to support Nigeria custom
policy, in their quest to ensure that all vehicle duty are fully paid.
Nigerians stand the chance to benefit from the following only if Nigeria
Custom would be allow to implement the policy as plan.
Vehicle proliferation would reduce, thereby reduce fuel consumption and demand.
Revenue generation will increase, thereby helping the government to implement developmental project.
It would succeed in forcing
some vehicle off the road, because I heard some people complaining why
should they pay custom duty for an old vehicle? that's self indictment,
because if a vehicle could be that old to make you think that way, the
vehicle have no business to be on Nigerian roads, it should be recycle.
The policy would reduce vehicle smuggling, because there is no need
to smuggle, when you knew that the vehicle can not freely plied Nigerian
road without custom duty.
As vehicle proliferation reduce due to
custom duty policy, fuel consumption will reduce, fuel importation will
reduce, dollar demand will reduce and thereby increase the value of the
naira.
As vehicle proliferation reduce, the pressure on our road
will also reduce, thereby making the road to last longer than expected.
Such policy could force some people to patronize commercial vehicles
instead of buying needless cars that only succeed in polluting the
environment.
As custom new policy reduce the proliferation of
vehicles, there would be less pollution, which could reduce effect of
climate change, etc.
I suggest that the custom boss should meet
with the commander in chief of the arm forces, to seek the support of
other security agencies, so as to help the custom implement this policy
to the latter. I would also like a situation whereby state revenue
agencies and road safety will force vehicle owners to provide custom
duty payment document, before any vehicle should be register, after all,
the state share all the money generated by custom with the federal
government, I don't see any reason why they would not support this good
policy. If possible, Nigeria custom should partner with Road safety
commission and state motor vehicle license office, so that custom could
have a desk in their offices, to help make sure that all document
provided by vehicle owners are original and to also help educate vehicle
owners on how and where to get original custom duty clearing document.
may God bless Nigeria.
